As we look to the 2010 and 2012 elections, it’s probably a good idea to check the status of your “partisanship.”
Are you a Closet Republican? Yes, I’ll vote Republican but don’t ask me to make phone calls, write a check, or do any work.
Are you a Rainy Day Republican?
Well, it’s raining so maybe I’ll go to Headquarters for a half hour.
Are you a Committed Republican?
My Party needs to win this election, I’m going to work hard during the Primary for my favorite candidate; then, whatever happens, work for the nominee of the Party.
Cindy Lignelli (Lee Republican Women Federated) and I were each interviewed for a documentary on Partisan Politics. And, it really got me thinking about where I’ve come from in my views.
How does someone raised in Massachusetts by Union Democrats become an activist in the Republican Party? Well, it doesn’t happen over night. It evolves over time as values and issues present themselves and the lightbulb goes off.
A
recent poll shows that forty five percent of Americans, who get
involved in politics, do it to protect themselves from the government.
The Republican Party has a significant job to do to win back the American Public. We can help with that task. My neighbor, the Honorable Melvin Laird describes Republican women as the "footsoldiers in the battle to win voters."
I like the ring of that.
Well, get your feet in shape, fellow soldiers, we have our work cut out for us over the next few years.
