Florida Federation of Republican Women Statement on Men-Only Meetings for Governor and Disgraced Jim Greer: “Appalled but Not Surprised”
Jacksonville - Florida Federation of Republican Women President, Cindy Graves, issued the following statement today:
“On behalf of the members of Florida Federation of Republican Women, I express our continued and collective outrage and disgust as more details come to light regarding indicted felon Jim Greer and his ties to the governor.
“Meredith O'Rourke’s reported revelations that Greer organized a men-only trip to the Bahamas with major donors, utilizing Party funds meant to elect Republicans and that the governor participated in this event and others is unacceptable.
“Women are appalled but certainly not surprised as Greer and his cohorts had been kept at arms length from our organization for some time.
“Early in his tenure, many witnessed Greer’s arrogance as well as his chauvinistic and unprofessional behavior toward GOP women in general and in particular his aggressive disrespect toward our National Committeewoman, Sharon Day. He ceased to be invited to our meetings after 2008. With very rare exception, women leaders had no respect for him, his leadership and certainly not his political abilities. We simply worked around his incompetence. “If true that the governor participated in these events, it is yet one further example of why he should not be elected again in Florida on any ticket. Of course, these sexist actions pale in comparison to the governor’s inaction in the Gulf as well as felonies and charges of complete ineptitude levied against Greer- Crist’s hand-picked chairman. We are relieved our Party values of inclusiveness have been restored under new leadership and our historical mores of equality remain in tact,” said Graves.
